A joyful combination of ‘literature’ and ‘art’, “Picture Book” is a highly developed, widely available art form for children and families. Since its appearance in the 18th century, it has progressed tremendously in time throughout history. Especially in Korea, Korean picture books have won numerous international awards and have also exported copyrights to various other countries.
This exhibition will provide a valuable opportunity to encounter exceptional works of 11 Korean picture book artists at a single location. These 11 artists are from different age range, art genres and backgrounds and they each utilize distinctive media. With the main theme, ‘Magic’, the exhibition begins with ‘miraculous spells’, then moves on to the fantastic stories of magic becoming true – ‘My Own Power’, and finally, it travels to a larger world beyond magic – ‘Unknown Mystery World’. This exhibition will present 36 works of art (2&3-dimensional), comprised of 16 Korean picture books, sketches, storyboards, and more.
